Located 45 km south of Paris, the Musée de la Gendarmerie Nationale, labelled "Museum of France", is the only place dedicated to the history and heritage of the national gendarmerie. Housed in a renovated former barracks building from 1900, the museum features a monumental, three-dimensional flaming grenade over 5 meters high as its entrance. Inaugurated in 2015, the MGN presents a selection of 2000 unusual and exceptional objects, illustrating the key moments and missions of the gendarmerie, a unique military force in the world. Sealed investigation files, cantinière barrel, bicycle, watercolours, and many other unexpected items sit alongside uniforms, weapons, and headgear in the museum's display cases, immersing visitors in the history of the institution throughout the history of France. A museum for young and old, and accessible to everyone.
