Exhibition : Les gens de Paris, 1926-1936

At the Musée Carnavalet - Histoire de Paris

Through to February 8th, 2026.

The Musée Carnavalet highlights the Parisian population of the interwar period with this exhibition, which notably draws on three population censuses in Paris in 1926, 1931 and 1936. It paints a portrait of Parisian women and men, from their places of birth and nationalities to their professions, as well as their family situations and distribution within the city's neighbourhoods and buildings. The exhibited works, most often unpublished, allow us to re-examine and challenge the public on themes such as children's rights, urban planning, and migrations... Let's meet La Goulue, Joséphine Baker, Charles Aznavour, or anonymous figures like a shorthand typist, a female police agent...
