Alongside Velázquez and Murillo, Francisco de Zurbarán stands as one of the great masters of Spain’s Golden Age. Long associated with Caravaggesque austerity, his work is now celebrated for its striking modernity, where powerful volumes meet extraordinary naturalism. The Louvre presents a major retrospective featuring 65 works, from monumental monastic commissions to portraits and still lifes, including a tribute to his son, Juan. In dialogue with the exhibition "Sculpting Colour: Masterpieces from the National Museum of Sculpture, Valladolid", this exceptional exhibition celebrates the richness and diversity of 17th-century Spanish art.
