Exhibition : "Mamluks 1250-1517"

At the Musée du Louvre

Through to July 28th, 2025.

Among the major temporary events off ered at the museum this season, visitors will be able to admire, "Mamluks 1250- 1517", an exceptional exhibition dedicated to the Mamluk Sultanate, the golden age of the Islamic period from the 12th to the 16th centuries. It is indeed the first time that nearly 260 pieces, from famous international collections, have been brought together in Europe. They testify to a rich era in religious, artistic, literary, and scientific terms in the Near East. Textiles, art objects, paintings, woodwork, ivories testify to a unique society that formed a part of the heart of the Arab world. This dynasty, originally composed of military slaves trained in Islam and the most rigorous martial disciplines, became a powerful military caste that would rise to power several times in the Egyptian-Syrian empire. This dive into the captivating society of the Mamluks also allows for the discovery of some great historical figures of that time and to become familiar with their particular stories.
